Theatre

Since the 1980s, De Wit's special timbre and musical inventiveness have found their place in many theatre performances. For each performance, De Wit develops a particular sound language, which often also relates to the piece in terms of visual image and materiality. In this process, the Wit’s affinity with installation work often comes to show. For some projects he only makes the soundscape, but more often he is also present on stage, performing the music live. His chosen instrumentation varies enormously: from (grand)piano to bell strings, from electronics to vocal harmonies, from bass-clarinet to glass tubes.

Most recently, he composed and performed for the Couperus Trilogy, directed by Ivo van Hove for International Theater Amsterdam. In the past, he also collaborated with directors like Johan Doesburg, Pierre Audi, Ger Thijs, Mirjam Koen and Gerardjan Rijnders. In 2005 he was awarded the Proscenium Prize of the Dutch Theatre Festival for his theatre oeuvre.
